Paper plane blankets

Wowza, I've been absent for way to long...

Whilst I clearly haven't been busying myself blogging, I have however been sewing up a storm.  After seeing this a few months ago, I just knew I had to make a paper airplane inspired blanket for my little dudie.

And I did, well actually I made two.  A blue one and a red one.

The plane is appliqued on to white quilters cotton with a satin stitch and the planes travel path is hand stitched using embroidery cotton (6 strands) and a simple running stitch.

The border is houndstooth strips sewn on the edges and they are backed with a mustard yellow polar fleece.  So simple but super cozy and cute-to-boot!

One is for my little guy and the other is a gift for a friend expecting her first in a couple of months.  Yay for little bubba's to cuddle!

  1. They are fabulous! The paper plane is such a cool applique, looks awesome with the hand stitching!

  2. They both look fabulous, Kristin!!! I think it's a great idea to put polar fleece on the back.

  3. Oh wow these are gorgeous! I'm in love with the simple lines of the paper planes and the colours that you chose! Wonderful!!!

  5. This is exactly what I've been looking for! I'm due in November and want to decorate his little area of the world in paper airplanes. Thank you so much for such awesome inspiration!
